Daywear, tailoring, and femininity are the elements of the new contemporary. Alberta Ferretti Fall Winter 2020/21 collection explores an unconventional fashion through a study of well-tailored daywear. Traditionally, associated with men’s tailoring, checked fabrics were used to reinvent the classic womenswear aesthetic and produce a sharp vision of contemporary femininity.

“I started working on this collection thinking of a woman that was far from the established ideal. I have always focused on promoting femininity, but for this collection I pushed myself further by giving garments the ambassador role for sophisticated, yet sustainable daywear.” says Alberta Ferretti. The collection is essentially composed of a series that seeks solutions for both practical daywear and ethereal eveningwear.

Shirts, jackets, pants and coats that come in checked cashmere, are crafted with tailored cuts and accompanied by newly interpreted denim looks. The sartorial cuts are also used to shape new volumes on sleeves. Additional styles of silk fil coupé shirts and trousers are fashioned alongside chiffon tops and skirts tacked down by embroideries.

Shearling or cashmere coats, brocade dresses and chiffon aprons are also styled with moiré silk trousers. The effect of an exaggerated shape and amplified volume was achieved by ruches finished with hems supported by an internal thread that settles the form, while detaching it from the silhouette.

An elevated colour palette was carefully considered. Shades of grey and tones of black serve as a base, to the red, mauve, purple and blue hues. Coordinated accessories such as leather gloves are accompanied by high boots and voluminous bags in matching checked fabrics.

Making clothes that embody a sense of uniqueness by applying the rules of a renewed tailoring to make every day dressing special. Alberta Ferretti’s Spring/Summer 2020 collection is dedicated to women of character, women who want to identify themselves in a narrative that uses fashion to stand out.

« I started working on this collection with the idea of creating a contemporary story, trying to find a balance between the feeling that women have for fashion and the carefree attitude of today. I decided to deepen my search for customization, to make each garment the chapter of a story and transform everyday clothing so that it can be applied for many special occasions. »

The collection, framed by an emotional video installation created by the artist Fabrizio Plessi, maintains the integrity of design precision while simultaneously communicating the same emotion and feeling through atelier techniques to ready-to-wear.

Small embroidered capes turn into tops and are paired with suede trousers or washed and dyed denim with a tie-dye technique that mimics the inlay; washed silk dresses are constructed with patchwork of colors alternating with crochet work, fabrics with black and white animal prints with psychedelic graphics make up the dresses, jackets and trousers; white or black shirts in embroidered muslin combine with chiffon: elements that define a refined day attitude to inspire dressing well every day.

The evening offerings transition to blue, through a degradé effect that sinks into black. Chiffon ruffles create “tremblant” surfaces; dresses consist of fluid and layered lines stand alongside those embroidered with micro- beads and varying sequins.

This quest to personalize every look also addresses accessories. Suede bags inlaid with a patchwork effect are combined with flat sandals with leather straps and jewel details.

Innocence, naive, sunkissed. The freshness of a life lived in open air provoking adventures of the everyday. Alberta Ferretti’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection is an intense, delicate and natural development of the contemporary feminine aesthetic through a story of the complexity of a woman who moves through the sustained rhythms of everyday life.

“In this collection, I wanted to create a new attitude that encourages women to voice their strong personality through innocence, gentleness and an almost dreamy calmness. It is with this thought in mind, I was able to build a story that describes a physical adventure and an internal exploration, a more introspective journey. This leads to reflecting on the joys of living, while provoking women towards a deeper understanding of themselves in this world,” said Alberta Ferretti.

A strategic use of iconographic references, that have become a part of Ferretti’s DNA. A new silhouette of varying volumes and shapes that skim the body. Hues from pastel pink, light blue and green encompass the colors of the desert at dusk. Plissé soleil gives new meaning to gowns and short tunics. The pursuit of perfection seen through the craftsmanship of crochet embroidery on chiffon and the San Gallo lace highlighted on the mini poplin dresses, slips and rompers. The utilitarian inspired trousers are redesigned in unexpected shapes. A contemporary emphasis on feminine sensibility progress the collection with bush jackets of a parachute effect. Coats and jackets shown with detachable pockets. A dynamic range of daywear that separates itself from streetwear, shown in strength and details of the designs, while supporting the need for sportswear in a variety of romantic nuances while maintaining a relaxed, effortless glamour.

Accessories make a bold statement; large crochet raffia backpacks paired with flat sandals in braided ribbons.

The Alberta Ferretti Fall/Winter 2018 collection depicts an edgier woman, one that has more character, along with more style. This collection proposes a contemporary and decisive interpretation of daywear, that enhanced with personal styling, is capable of transitioning from day to night. These are bold silhouettes with statement shoulders that emphasize a new twist to the Alberta Ferretti’s aesthetic. 
 
«Through my designs, I wanted to highlight character affirmation. I imagined a confident and assertive woman. For this reason, I have decided to include my friend Lorenzo Quinn’s sculpture “Gravity” as a focal point of the runway, a masterpiece that places the woman at the center of the Universe, which for me, is a metaphor of reality,» declares Alberta Ferretti.
 
Dynamic but not tied to trends, the collection exudes confident ability in mixing textiles such as denim with feathers as well as adding flashes of gold light through fabrics, sculpted jewels or metallic belts. Daywear includes coats, skirts, and leather capes lined with wool or jersey and paired with black denim jumpsuits. Jackets are reinterpreted in jacquard fabrics.

The transition from daywear to evening wear is characterized by vibrant gold and silver sequins seen also on the T-shirts and skirts. Simple silhouettes and embellished details come together to create a goddess gown sprinkled in crystals. Her muses are seen in high heeled boots and sandals made from colored silk cords, enriched with small tassels.

NEW GAZE

For the upcoming Spring Summer 2018 collection Alberta Ferretti looks back at her DNA of lightness with a new sensuality, creating a collection defined by ease and sophistication with unexpected moments.

“This season, I began looking at how I perceive my fashion by adopting a dynamic point of view. I embraced the past and present in one single shot, almost as if I was viewing it through the lens of a moving camera. During that process, I wanted to give my signature sense of lightness an added depth of sensuality, the surprise of the unexpected and the simplicity of a bright, luminescent attitude. This is how this quasi- sentimental collection that describes my current state of mine began. A moment of creative reflection, through which my aim was to pursue the renewal of my authenticity” declares Alberta Ferretti.

From this renewed perception of the Alberta Ferretti aesthetic, a new lightness is born. It becomes more affectionate towards the female body, originating from essential yet never minimal lines and also from lean silhouettes, often interrupted to create unexpected volumes, as seen on jersey gowns adorned with capes and low backs. A linearity that loves to be broken by geometric embroideries that imitate sequins or alternatively, an assortment of sequins used to create a dégradé effect to embellish and emphasise the length of the gowns. There’s a lightness that translates to pure sensuality through the bathing suits where black is replicated in graphic patterns defined by belts. Sheer chiffon gowns where the embroidery loses its decorative function and becomes the highlight of a luminous path that crosses over into pastel hue. Liquid lurex dresses that enhance fluidity.

A new Alberta Ferretti woman, born from a “new gaze”, a reflective, sensual and affectionate look on the need for modernity, with the urban attitude in which a gown is styled with a suede jacket or a lightweight silk and nylon parka. The flat leather sandals are easily replaced with lurex pumps. The collection features black, nude, beige and pastels; Alberta Ferretti’s palette of sensuality.
